Background
This 4 Bedroom House is located in Ruai in a semi-urban neighbourhood in Nairobi County, Kenya. The house is a two-storey masonry stone building designed to accommodate a mid-size family. The site is a 48 by 49 feet plot situated within a residential area that features private dwelling homes, churches and schools.
Challenge
With a space limitation of 218 square metres, the design had to accommodate the following spaces: living room, dining room, kitchen, pantry, laundry area, storage room, guest toilet, en suite guest bedroom, two bedrooms, an en suite master bedroom with a WIC, rooftop terrace, and a carport.
Solution
The building has a total living space of 230 square metres. It has incorporated all the desired spaces, allowing for well-defined public and private spaces. The design of the house has a ground coverage of less than 50 per cent; allowing for plenty of greenery around the house. The house is centrally set to allow for natural lighting. It features an open-plan living, dining and kitchen perfect for family interactions.
Result
A stylish modern 4 bedroom house with corner windows and a natural stone finish. The house’s most distinctive features are the framed corner windows that greatly define the front facade. The design allows for plenty of outdoor spaces, including the master balcony and the rooftop terrace. It has an overall compact design that makes it perfectly suited for its tight site. The house design is a mix of modern and traditional architectural styles.
