Background
This 6 Bedroom House is located in Ruai, Kenya. It is a three-story masonry stone building designed to accommodate a large family. The house is located on a 40′ x 80′ plot in a residential area with private homes, churches, and schools.
Challenge
With a space limitation of 350 square metres, the design had to accommodate the following spaces front porch, living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry/utility area, pantry, guest toilet, common bathroom, four bedrooms, 2 master ensuite bedrooms at different levels, rooftop terrace, and outdoor parking for 2 vehicles.
Solution
The building has a total living space of 306 square metres. It has incorporated all the desired spaces, allowing for well-defined common and individual spaces. The design of the house has a ground coverage of less than 40 per cent; allowing for plenty of greenery around the house. The house is centrally set to allow for natural lighting. It features a spacious rooftop terrace perfect for family hangouts and entertaining.
