Background
This 4 Bedroom Duplex House is located in Kitengela in an semi-urban neighbourhood in Kajiado County, Kenya. The building is a 3 storey masonry stone building designed to accommodate 2 large size family. The site is a 50 by 100 feet plot situated within a gated residential area that features private dwelling homes.
Challenge
With a space limitation of 450 square metres, the design had to accommodate the following spaces front porch, living room, dining room, kitchen, back porch, laundry area, guest toilet, common bathroom, four bedrooms, master ensuite bedroom, rooftop terrace, staff quarters, and outdoor parking for 2 vehicles.
Solution
The building has a total living space of 520 square metres. It has incorporated all the desired spaces, allowing for well-defined common and individual spaces. The design of the house has a ground coverage of less than 50 per cent; allowing for plenty of greenery around the house. The house is centrally set to allow for natural lighting. It features a spacious rooftop terrace perfect for family hangouts and entertaining.
Result
A stylish spacious duplex house with outdoor living areas. The house’s most distinctive feature is the curved wall in the front façade. The design has large rooftop terrace for social gatherings. It has an overall stylish and functional design that makes it perfectly suited for use by 2 families. The design makes use of natural materials like stone and wood giving it a natural connection to the surrounding.
